Our Vision

We are an inclusive church. Our aim is to be a community of faith that follows the example of Jesus in showing acceptance and value of all.

We continue to seek to be at the heart of the community of Wendover, we will live out our faith by loving God with all our heart, soul and mind and loving our neighbours as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40).

We have consulted across the whole of our church community to establish what God is calling us to do in this next five year period of our church's life as we continue our journey of faith and sharing our faith with our local community.

Our Focus Areas

Children, Young People and Families
We will:

Seek to appoint a Pioneer leader for children, young people and families
Work with others to support young people with their mental health and wellbeing
Plan to hold Sunday teatime services for young families and explore a Sunday evening informal meeting for young people
Continue to support our Sparklers families

Pastoral Ministry
We will:

Establish new life groups so we get to know each other better and pray together
Work with others to help combat loneliness in our community
Continue to work to communicate the pastoral care taking place at St Mary's including bereavement care and welcoming newcomers
Make a variety of prayer material available

Engagement Within Our Church Community
We will:

Work to establish a weekly cafe, in church, for those who are on their own and those who are lonely (in partnership with Chiltern Way School)
Equip the congregation to build confidence in sharing our faith
Plan opportunities (e.g. away day) to be together and pray
Continue our eco church work
Encourage financial giving to enable us to do the work we are called to do. Engage in fundraising together

Engagement With Our Local Community
We will:

Make greater use of our churchyard (e.g. churchyard trail)
Identify ways to make St Mary's Centre more attractive for use by the community
Enable more social activities and summer teas
Share good news through Wendover News and social media
Be more courageous in our engagement with those who are marginalised

Progress So Far

Despite these plans being very new, we are already making good progress along many of the paths that we are prioritising. Our Connect, Create & Celebrate service is taking place monthly, we have funded and are now actively recruiting for our Pioneer Children & Families Minister and we are working towards our Eco Church silver award. We're really excited about what the future holds for our church and its place God's mission to Wendover.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Welcome!

The following information is specifically for those planning to visit us for the first time, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at St Mary's Church in Church Lane, Wendover, for our two main Sunday services each week, which start at 9.00am and 10.45am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you will be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Plan your journey

Accessibility

There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the Church Centre, which you can find through the door towards the front of the church on the left hand side.

Our Main Sunday Services

Our 9am Holy Communion is a more traditional service, including music and hymns in an established style but using up-to-date language. It will probably appeal to those who are used to more formal Anglican worship. There is no provision for children at this service.

Our 10.45am Sunday Worship services follow a more informal style with contemporary worship songs. These services are typically most suitable for families. Children of all ages are very welcome and we have activities for younger children at the back of church. On the second and fourth Sundays of each month, we share Communion at this service. The first and third Sundays do not include Communion and are designed to be rich in teaching and learning for people of all ages - from 2 to 92!

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out our Church Life section on this website to see if there’s a group that you'd like to join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Serving and Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church, why not sign up to serve on a team. We are always looking for volunteers to get involved in different aspects of our work.
